During the past 14 years, the Local Democracy Agencies (LDA) and their Association (ALDA) have grown to be one of the most important networks in Europe to foster democracy, human rights and sustainable development at the local level. ALDA’s work can be divided into two pillars:
1) field work in South East Europe and the Southern Caucasus through the 11 Local Democracy Agencies
2) best practice exchanges and awareness-raising throughout Europe with its partners and members  

The Local Democracy Agencies
The first LDA was founded at the initiative of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Subotica, Serbia, in 1993.
